How to Reduce the Cost of Your Parts

It’s no secret that one of the biggest factors in choosing a manufacturing partner is price.  Engineers, buyers, and managers want low-cost, high quality parts.  As a manufacturer, it is our goal to provide prices that make sense for our customers as well as for ourselves.  At Jacksonville Precision, we strive to be part of your manufacturing process even before your part is released for quoting.  With clear and open communication during the design process, we can help our customers achieve optimal part design the first time and avoid internal revision processes and unnecessary expense.

Here are some ways to reduce the cost of your customer machined components:

  • Part design – this is the most obvious, but also the most complex topic when it comes to price reduction.  This can include factors such as part geometry, number of setups, custom fixturing, material selection, and tolerances. For more specifics, check out our in-depth article on common design issues and how to avoid them.

  • Repeat production – plan on making your part more than once?  Let us know!  Programming, fixturing, and setup costs can all be spread out over more parts and longer periods of time, which means cheaper parts in the long run.

  • Bulk pricing on material, purchased components, and finishing – Our vendors offer discounts on bulk and recurring orders.  They, and we, would much rather see recurring business than having to pursue new customers and projects.  The resulting savings can be passed on directly to our customers, so everyone wins!

If you’re submitting a part that will be made more than once, don’t forget to let us know!  We’re always happy to work with you on price.
